Certificates of Completion will be given following completion of the course.

Classes will be taught by Samuel Faulkner of the Ohio Police Officers Training Academy. Classes with limited space may be duplicated depending on the number of registrations.

For officers:

Liability Risk Reduction Training – This class focuses on training designed to teach officers how to avoid potential lawsuits as a result of their daily interaction with the community, such as search and seizure situations.  Attendees will learn various methods the plaintiff’s attorneys will use in an attempt to find fault in the officer’s actions as well as ways to make the officer less of a target.  This is classroom training and has no limit to the number of attendees.

Ground Defense – The ultimate fighting shows are popular on television and those fights usually end up on the ground.  Should this occur, this course teaches the officers practical and tactically sound ways of dealing with ground confrontations.  This class will cover topics such as how to regain your footing, how to escape the most common holds and how to maintain control of your weapon.  This is a hands-on course and would be limited to between 30 and 35 people.

Combat Conditioning – This class teaches conditioning techniques, which will assist the officer in potential street altercations.  Examples would be upper body conditioning to gain control in a hand to hand situation and balance conditioning to assist the officer in maintaining his/her balance in an altercation.  This class lasts around 1 hour and is limited to the size of the room being used.

For Families/Spouses:

Self Protection – This class is designed to offer general self defense techniques; however, the class will be targeted to the most likely situations, in which an individual might find themselves.  The class will also focus on avoiding potential dangerous situations and how to minimize the probability of becoming a target.  This class is limited to between 30 and 35 people.

Emotional Survival & Career Family Relationships – This class is specifically for the officer and their spouse.  It will deal with how the officer, the spouse and the family deal with the stress, which the officer encounters on a daily basis.  It will discuss the numbers of alcoholism, suicide and divorce among police officers and why those numbers are elevated among the law enforcement community.  The class will give the spouse ways to deal with the stress that the officer, all too often, brings home.  If suddenly your spouse has ever asked, “Are you mad at me?” or you catch yourself reading off license plates while on vacation, this class could be both a lifesaver and a marriage saver.

Anti-kidnapping/Anti-Bullying – This class is targeted toward children, teaching them techniques to avoid being kidnapped.  It will also teach them basic self defense skills which they may be able to use if they find themselves in a situation where a suspect is trying to abduct them.  This class will also focus on the dangers of online predators and identity theft, which many young people are subjected to when going online.  The class will also deal with ways for your child to handle a bully.  Depending on how many children sign up for this class, it may be divided by age group and the various ages taught various techniques, based on their learning abilities.  The class would be limited to 35 to 40 children.

Identification Cards / Kits – ID cards will be available to all children and ID kits to their parents at no charge.  Cost of those kits will be paid by Gutter Topper® of Cincinnati, Ohio.  The kits will include fingerprints, photos and a hair and/or saliva sample for DNA purposes.
